Looks as if the CG is out of the hurricane PFO business

Hurricane 5

Well, at least in terms of new assignments. We had Katrina (after FEMA got fired), Rita, and Ophelia. I thought perhaps this would become a new core competency for us.

Guess not. DHS handed PFO to FEMA.
R. David Paulison, Acting Director, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security, named Justin DeMello as the Federal Coordinating Officer for Federal recovery operations in the affected area.
I'm a little confused, wondering if FCO is the same as PFO, but it's the only thing I could find on the web about federal coordination.

Who is Justin Demello? He works for FEMA. You'll find a picture of him here, standing with the President's brother.

I wonder if he screws up if another Coast Guard flag officer will be named PFO?

  1. Probably has more to do with the fact that FEMA already has more of a presence in FL from previous hurricanes.

Besides, I'm sure they didn't want the CG to hog all the glory...
