Yesterday I finished reading Osama's Revenge: The next 9/11 & what the media and the government haven't told you by Paul J. Williams. Frankly, I wish I hadn't. Last night I had nightmares of feudal wars and a devastated America. Anyway, if 5% of what he claims is true, well, time to prepare for the absolute worst.
As I've been thinking about this, I've been thinking back to the Cold War. The Cold War, if it had ever gotten hot, was between nation states. We're not so lucky now. this current conflict isn't between nation states, but between several nation states and an ideology or religion. There's no Mutually Assured Destruction. We could get wiped out -- or hit pretty damn hard -- and reply in kind, but who would we reply against? Pakistan, since that's where Osama is likely hiding. Oh, that would be pretty. Who cares if we knock out Osama, 'cause there's another hydra head waiting in the wings and, oh, right, doesn't Pakistan have the bomb, too, and would they not reply in kind.
Makes me want to move to North Dakota, I tell you.
On an unrelated note, an interesting tale here about a motorcyclist cruising through Chernobyl.
