The problem with the immigration question

The problem with the immigration question is basically this: we think it's about policy, but it's really about people... individual, real people. Check out this New York Times story about Amadou Ly, a high school senior in East Harlem.

Somehow, we need to create a policy which provides for people like young Mr. Ly. This is the sort of young man -- "a hard-working and diligent student with mathematical ability and a scientific mind" -- we need to join us as an American citizen.
