Was it worth it?

I sometimes wonder... From the Virginian Pilot:
A former civilian Coast Guard worker was sentenced Monday to 11 months in jail after admitting he stole about $42,000 in travel advances.

James Whack, 61, of Virginia Beach quit the Coast Guard after the crime was discovered by internal auditors. He was indicted in March on 22 counts of forgery, embezzlement and making false claims.

He pleaded guilty in Jul y to one count.

According to the indictment, Whack received 30 travel vouchers ranging from $1,000 to $4,100 between October 2003 and July 2005, but upon his return from those trips, he submitted forged claims for additional money he wasn't entitled to receive.

Whack was employed at the time as a civilian civil rights officer for the Coast Guard's Maintenance and Logistics Command in Norfolk.

Whack paid restitution in the case by giving up his retirement pay, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Ouch.

Aside from just being wrong, it's never worth it...
