A landslide on the left coast

Governor Schwarzenegger must be eating his Wheaties; he took California handily:
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger won re-election by a landslide on Tuesday after distancing himself from fellow Republican President George W. Bush and taking a moderate stance.
I don't think this is a case of Californians being awestruck by Hollywood. The Governor is on to something. Note this:
The moderate approach worked in a state where 42 percent of the 15.8 million registered voters are Democrats, compared to 34 percent Republicans.
He carried the state by 25%... Moderation appeals across the board, to Republicans and Democrats alike.

Perhaps a few other extremists, on both sides of the aisle, could take a lesson or two. It's not about pandering to the extremes; it's not about winning by the slimmest of margins. It's about building a diverse, moderate, appealing constituency.
