I am certain there's something wrong here...
Stephen Murmer is a high school art teacher in Chesterfield County. He is also a professional artist, selling his original works for several hundred dollars. When the school found out he was selling his work under the name of Stan Murmur, they sent him home, suspended from teaching for a week.
The reason: instead of brushes, he uses his body. Specifically, he uses his, er, derriere.
It seems that doing butt art can get you canned.
I am certain that the school will either end of reversing their decision in short order, or will find themselves on the losing end of a very expensive law suit.
Chesterfield County schools spokeswoman Debra Marlow is reported to have uttered, "In the school system, personnel regulations state that teachers are expected to set an example for students through their personal conduct. Additionally, the Supreme Court has stated that schools must teach by example and that teachers, like parents, are role models." I don't know; I'm thinking that an art teacher actually selling art is a good role model. Perhaps the good administrators of Chesterfield ought to focus on leadership rather than censorship.
