Planned Disruptions to Virginia Tech Funerals?

Patriot Guard Riders

If Scott is right, this is indeed disturbing news:
I have heard some rumblings throughout some law enforcement circles and others that Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church hate group ( are planning to disrupt as many Virgina Tech funerals as possible with protests.
If the shooting itself didn't turn your stomach, looks like the aftermath will.

CBS has an interesting article, including a quote from one of the Phelps disciples where she talks about why these students and faculty were killed:
The evidence is they were not Christian. God does not do that to his servants.
Oh, I'm not walking down that road other than to say that overt signs of mental illness seems to be rampant this week.

While I believe in free speech, I also believe in civility, civil discourse, and appropriateness.

As Scott notes, the Patriot Guard Riders, are a group that was established to serve as a buffer between demonstrators and funerals. They have plenty of experience in this, and they do an awesome and respectful job. They're on this.

And, the Commonwealth is likely on it, too. According to the CBS article, Virginia is one state that recently added funerals and memorial services to the state’s disorderly conduct statute.

I stand with the Patriot Guard Riders. Let us all stand and turn back hatred.
