We're too good for help from others?

Hurricane Katrina [Prayer]

I was amazed to hear that the United States, through the federal government, had turned down more than $800 million in aid from foreign governments following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

Read John Solomon and Spencer S. Hsu's After Katrina, U.S. Did Not Accept Most Offers of Aid, in the Washington Post.

  1. As a person who lives in New Orleans, I am not surprised. Did you know that $110 billion dollars has been allocated to New Orleans from the federal government, but since our state government cannot afford to pay the 10% required (according to the Stafford Act), Louisiana will not be getting much hurricane aid. It will take a while before anything happens, but the federal government is certainly not doing anything for us.
