You know things are bad when...

... the Coast Guard releases a message with this as the lede:
DURING THIS ECONOMIC PERIOD WHERE WE ARE EXPERIENCING A SLUGGISH HOUSING MARKET AND RISING PRICES FOR FUEL, FOOD AND OTHER NECESSITIES, THERE IS GROWING CONCERN THROUGHOUT OUR WORKFORCE ABOUT FINANCIAL SOLVENCY.
Ouch. This is sort of like the Coast Guard's take on global warming. "I can't speak to global warming, but I can tell you there's so little ice in the Arctic now that year-round navigation is on the horizon." This message is the Coast Guard's take about the U.S. economy. "I don't know if we're in a recession, but I'm worried about rising prices and the financial solvency of my workforce."

The Coast Guard has a wealth of financial management information available.

  1. The reality is, it is getting bad and going to get worse. My advice, get out of debt and tighten up the old wallet boys and girls - predict $4.00 gas by Summer.

The CG leadership should be worried, of course it would help if they would quit throwing away so many dollars themselves and maybe set the example... MM
